About Me

Brad and I are so excited to be welcoming Baby Oz October 26th, 2012. This year we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary as a family of 3. We have no idea what to expect on this journey to parenthood, but look forward to sharing as we go. I look forward to having this blog as a way to look back on all the exciting things happening this year. My friend Ashley's sister did this and i think it is a great alternative to posting everything on facebook...not everyone needs to see/read all that! Please, feel free to read and comment as we go. We haven't done this before, so any advice/ tips are welcome! Thanks =)

Not the type of summer Popsicles we had imagined...

As summer started Max had his check up with his ENT doctor. It was just routine, as he had tubes put in his ears about a year ago. Before the tubes went in he suggested a sleep study to see if his breathing was being hindered in any way as he slept. He was always a sound sleeper but would literally do laps in his bed...most mornings I would find in facing the opposite direction in the bed. So we had the sleep study done. It looked a thousand times worse than it was - all of the cords were just to monitor him while he laid there sleeping. Not comfortable and a little scary for someone so little but painless and in his best interest.
Told you!!! It looks horrible wright & I may have even cried as I watched him sleep liking like this. Something a parent never wants to see. Well we found out that his adenoids & tonsils were too big and impacted his sleep. In addition to the sleep issues he would constantly get upper respatory infections. So after speaking with his ENT doctor we decided to move forward with the surgery for removal.
I had my tonsils out when I was in 1st grade and only remember eating Popsicles for days...not a horrible memory. Max being so much younger I had no idea what to expect. I went to the Internet - which please don't do!!! Horrible!!! I had myself a nervous wreck, thinking of the worst. The doctor said it would take about 15-20 minutes for his portion but we should factor in the anisteasia and recovery time. I watched the clock like a kid about to get out of school for summer! When I saw the doctor. One out after 30 minutes I was thrilled - of course everything went perfectly! He just had some huge tonsils and adenoids. Recovery was a little rough but we held him and did our best to keep him calm. We had to stay at the hospital because he was under 3, to be monitored. He did wonderful there and ate Popsicle after Popsicle!!! I thought to myself...this won't be so bad - I'm stocked on Popsicles at home.

Well we got home and all hell broke loose!!! He didn't want a Popsicle, not ever! I had the hardest time getting him to drink due to not being able to use a straw - this was our biggest struggle! Our first night home he got fussy and threw up - BLOOD!!! My paper from the hospital did to bring him back if this happened becaus it could be dangerous. I freak out inside but calmly load him into the car and rush to the nearest ER. We get there and they get vitals and he throws up again, more blood (when the doctor gets in the room). He calmly tells us that this can be normal and we could take him home and keep an eye on him. Ahhhh it's going to be ok!!! We struggled at home for the next week getting him to eat and drink - and ended up staying home 10 days with him.

We finally got him to drink some shakes and applesauce. It took what seemed like forever for our baby to be back to normal but he finally is!!! The strangest thing to me is that he now sleeps in one spot all night and doesn't snore. I thank god for the wonderful doctors and nurses that took care of him. I can't thank them enough - St. Mary's Hospital has been exceptional in care! We go for his final check up tomorrow and I have to say he is finally back to his old self :)

Hope your enjoying your final days of summer!!!

xoxo,
